[something creative here]Â

There's nothing worse than "I could've come up with that."
Ever have something go by- a trailer for a new tv show, a novel, a craft on Pinterest- and think, "Why didn't I think of that?!" You're not alone. But, with the constantly-on-the-go lives many of us lead these days, we might put an unintentional cap on our creative thinking, and certain thoughts go unthunk in our minds (channeling our inner Dr. Seuss).
Our theme this month- partially inspired by one of my favorite holidays, Halloween- is creativity. People get pretty creative about their Halloween costumes, party ideas, decorations...you get the idea.Additionally, one of my favorite quotes, from Joseph Chilton Pierce, is "To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong." Some things are scarier than ghouls, goblins, and ghosts. For that reason, October is creativity month here at Breaking Even!
Here's hoping you catch the creative bug in some capacity this fall! 'See' you soon,Nicole and the Breaking Even TeamPS Nicole recently cohosted a story slam event that showcased a lot of creativity from twelve storytellers on Mount Desert Island. More about it below!

What We Can Learn from Horror Remixes
If you've ever looked at the horror genre and thought, "Wait, another Nightmare on Elm Street?" you might think the industry is phoning it in. This post explains why that's not necessarily the case.
How Do You Get Inspired?
Inspiration isn't a "one size fits all" situation. In this post you'll find ideas for discovering your creative potential.
Creativity Without A Script
Garrison Keillor has been delivering creative content to us for years in the form of stories from Lake Wobegon, which is a favorite here at BEC!
Island Story Slam
Storytelling is one of the oldest forms of creative expression. This past month, there's been quite a bit of storytelling right here on MDI! Subscribe to our blog to get emailed as soon as it comes out (or just click the button below).
Noteworthy This Month

Noteworthy From Nicole
is my new favorite way of checking Gmail/Google Apps accounts. Based on the Zero Inbox concept, you can do useful things like 'snooze' emails (to deal with later but get them out of the way) and have certain kinds of emails skip your inbox entirely but remain archived. Go to
to check it out.

Noteworthy From Kassie
Fall is my favorite, mainly because I love pumpkin desserts. I've made this
three times already this year (one time I even shared).

Noteworthy From John
A recent internet outage at my home reminded me that there are such a thing as books printed on paper. So it was that I found myself grabbing a book published in 2006 (a simpler time when the break-up of Britney Spears and Kevin Federline). My book of choice: Sarah Vowell's "Assination Vacation", which explores the events surrounding the assassinations of presidents Lincoln, Garfield and McKinley, recounting her visits to historic sites with wry, self-deprecating humor.
